Stobhill & Newtongrange Masterplans Update
June 11, 2019 @ 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
“Many thanks to the hundreds of local people who have come to the previous masterplan events and told us how they would like these areas to improve for the benefit of the local communities.
Cllr Russell Imrie, Midlothian Council’s cabinet member for communities and economy
“We want to keep people informed about what the purpose of these masterplans is and how we’ve used what they told us to shape them.”
Local people are invited to a follow up drop-in event on the masterplans for Newtongrange centre and the nearby Stobhill and Lady Victoria Business Centre.
How we’ve used your feedback
Come along between 4pm and 7pm on Tuesday 11 June to the National Mining Museum Scotland to learn how your previous feedback has been used to develop the plans.
Maximise the benefits of the railway
Midlothian Council and Borders Railway Blueprint partnership commissioned both masterplans to maximise the social and economic benefits of the Borders Railway.
Shops, homes, and businesses
The Stobhill and Lady Victoria masterplan proposes a mix of commercial uses such as tourism related retail and business/light industrial together with a variety of housing types. The aim of the retail is not to compete with the existing shops in the village centre but to encourage tourist to stay longer and explore Newtongrange.
New village square
The masterplan for Newtongrange centre aims to revitalise the area by, among other measures, providing opportunities for a new village square, community facilities and housing in keeping with the existing architecture.
