SOS: Saving Our Services

While Midlothian Council’s budget comes under pressure the NCC wants ensure resident’s voices are heard regarding the services they depend on.

This will be a critical focus for NCC. Key outcomes will be:

  1. identifying services at risk
  2. identifying stakeholders
  3. consulting community groups and individuals already engaged in their preservation
  4. sourcing and challenging reasons for cuts or closure
  5. identifying and promoting alternative strategies

Newtongrange Library has come to be a key service to save and symbolic of the village’s effort. The ongoing task is to ensure that it is valued by Midlothian Council and residents and to look at how other services might be combined to make it more sustainable.
