The new Easthouses Primary School placement overlaps Newtongrange catchment

The development of the former site of Newbattle High School entirely into housing has been sensibly halted for consideration of the Primary School needs for the area, while a new Primary school on the site means boundary changes to Newtongrange Primary School’s catchment area area…

The NCC has taken a look at a report by Dr Mary Smith Director of Education, Communities and Economy, highlighting how planned development of an additional 1,200 houses in a social housing programme that includes Easthouses, Mayfield, Newtongrange and Gorebridge will require approximately 400 additional primary school places and 112 pre-school places.

The placement of a primary school in Easthouses means boundary changes for catchment so it is important for the village to be involved in the consultation. For example, the boundary would straddle Bryans Avenue and Suttieslea taking residents to the north side from Gardiner Place to Suttieslea Cres. The report also points out that adjustments to the catchment areas of Gore Glen, Mayfield, Gorebridge and Stobhill Primary Schools will also be required so as to distribute the pupils, so the south catchment boundary of Newtongrange may also be affected.

The NCC doesn’t have a member confirmed to attend, so if this consultation will affect you, and you are able to go along on June 4, we would love to hear from you – details in the form below or please email: secretary@newtongrange.org
