The NCC moves on first summer volunteering efforts with a planned planting and clean-up and reviews strategy on the village Masterplan
What’s apparent is that we have a village culture of “grafting ‘grangers” or “Nitteners who knuckle down” – they came out in force today,
It’s just great to see people getting together and enjoying taking care of the village. The boys know what a weed is now and know they can just pull them out when they are passing!
Expected discussion on Village Masterplan, meeting with Grant MacKay from Housing and Planning
Confirming NCC roles with a new NCC Chair, Clarity on flower beds and available resources for their upkeep plus an introduction to Community Resilience programmes
The development of the former site of Newbattle High School entirely into housing has been sensibly halted for consideration of the Primary School needs for the area, while a new Primary school on the site...
Expected discussion on Village Masterplan, meeting with MC Land and Countryside Manager regarding Flowerbeds and an introduction to Community Resilience
Establishing year aims for the NCC, opening discussion on options, to allow the NCC to focus its energy and achieve the best for the village.
A report on NCC’s visit to Midlothian Council’s consultation on financial strategy and vision set against the need to cut £18M
The March meeting focussed on the roles of new members of the NCC, upcoming Midlothian Council consultations and funding opportunities and launching of the new NCC website.
A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed us into their gardens today!
It was amazing to see how much effort, time and love so many people have put into these gorgeous green spaces, and our judges came away feeling very inspired with lots of ideas to recreate in their own homes!
The winners will be announced at the Newtongrange Welfare Park Centenary event, so make sure Saturday 19th September is marked in your diary.
In the meantime, a massive well done to everyone who took part, you should all be very proud of what you have created.

Rake your lawns and straighten your pots, the judges are out and about in the village this morning to rate your gardens in the Newtongrange garden competition.
